Carlos Alcaraz will return to the US Open, ending a more than four-month absence due to a wrist injury, as he looks to defend his championship title in New York. The seven-time Grand Slam winner confirmed the news on Thursday, with the tournament scheduled to run from August 30 to September 13.
Alcaraz withdrew from the Barcelona Open in April and subsequently missed the French Open, Wimbledon, and hard-court events in Toronto and Cincinnati because of a right wrist injury.
Initially, the 23-year-old had planned to make his comeback in Cincinnati — where he triumphed last year — but later decided to give his wrist additional time to recover.
In recent weeks, Alcaraz has progressively increased his training intensity and held a practice session with Denmark’s Holger Rune in Murcia to test how his injury would hold up under demanding conditions.
His return was also announced by transfer news reporter Fabrizio Romano in his signature football style on Instagram, posting “Here we go!” along with confirmation of Alcaraz’s reappearance at the US Open.
New York holds special meaning for Alcaraz. He claimed his first Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows in 2022, and also became the youngest player to rise to the world No. 1 ranking on the ATP list.
