Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 2 and former top-ranked player, announced on June 11 that he will skip Wimbledon as he continues to recover from a right wrist injury. The same injury previously forced the 23-year-old Spaniard to withdraw from the French Open.
Alcaraz, who has won seven Grand Slam titles, has not competed since his withdrawal from the Barcelona Open in April. In a statement posted on social media platform X, he wrote: “My recovery is progressing well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I am still not ready to compete. So I must withdraw from the grass-court events at Queen’s and Wimbledon.”
This marks the second consecutive Grand Slam Alcaraz has missed, following his absence from the French Open. He won Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024, and also captured the French Open title last year after a dramatic final against Jannik Sinner. Sinner later defeated Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final to claim the trophy.
Alcaraz's absence is a major blow for fans and broadcasters, as his rivalry with Sinner had captivated men's tennis. Alcaraz became the youngest player to complete a career Grand Slam set after winning the Australian Open earlier this year.
