Brighton & Hove Albion have officially announced the signing of Algerian left-back Jaouen Hadjam from Swiss champions Young Boys. The 23-year-old has signed a contract until 2031 for an undisclosed fee.
The transfer was announced by Brighton on Tuesday with a humorous video showing Hadjam sipping mint tea in a café.
Hadjam joins the group of Algerian players plying their trade in the Premier League, alongside Manchester City's Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hull City's Mohamed El Bachir Belloumi. Notably, Riyad Mahrez, formerly of Leicester City and Manchester City, is considered the most famous and successful Algerian player ever to feature in the league.
Born in Paris, Hadjam represented France at youth level before switching allegiance to Algeria in 2023. He has earned 21 caps for his national team.
Before moving to English football, Hadjam made 98 appearances for Young Boys in all competitions after arriving from Ligue 1 side Nantes in 2024. He came through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain.
Hadjam was part of the Algeria squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in three of the team's four matches. Brighton kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa, the reigning Europa League champions, on Sunday.
