Bank of Japan (BOJ) Governor Kazuo Ueda said on July 25 that the central bank will closely monitor the impact of the earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on domestic production and corporate supply chains.
Speaking to reporters, Ueda stressed the importance of assessing the effects of the natural disaster on the regional and national economy, particularly as many factories and infrastructure facilities may face operational disruptions.
The Kumamoto earthquake is seen as a new challenge to Japan's industrial production, which relies heavily on the stability of domestic supply chains. The BOJ will continue to gather information and make appropriate assessments at upcoming policy meetings.
