On October 15, Iran's Foreign Ministry officially condemned the European Union's (EU) statement on the country's domestic situation, labeling it 'hypocritical' and 'ignorant'.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani, in his weekly press conference, described the EU's statement as 'gross interference' in Iran's internal affairs and not reflective of reality.
According to Kanaani, 'the EU's accusations are all based on false and unverified information'. He also warned that the EU's repeated issuance of such statements would worsen bilateral relations and affect common interests.
Earlier, the EU issued a statement expressing concerns over the human rights situation in Iran, including executions of political prisoners. Iran rejects these allegations and asserts that its judicial system operates independently.
An unnamed diplomat said Tehran has summoned the EU representative in Tehran to lodge a formal protest, demanding the EU 'stop its hypocritical pretenses' and respect Iran's national sovereignty.
