Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank shot dead at least one Palestinian and wounded several others in scattered violence across the territory, according to Palestinian sources.
Palestinian officials said Israeli soldiers opened fire on a car carrying three Palestinians near Bani Naim, east of Hebron, the same day. The Israeli military said the vehicle rammed one of its vehicles. The incident left one Palestinian dead and two others seriously wounded.
The Palestinian General Authority of Civil Affairs identified the deceased as Hossam Alaa al-Din Abdul Jabbar Walad Ali, 38. The authority said Israeli forces were holding his body.
On X, the Israeli military said the three Palestinians were "driving suspiciously" and had attempted to carry out a ramming attack against soldiers. According to the Israeli account, the car carrying the suspects accelerated toward the military vehicle and rammed it before soldiers opened fire.
In Ramun, near Ramallah, the Israeli military said it dispatched troops after receiving reports of a burned vehicle and two "terrorists" in the area, one of them carrying a knife. One of the Palestinians "was neutralized by an Israeli civilian," the military said, without explaining the term. Palestinian officials said Ahmad Mazen Kahla was "critically wounded by occupation forces' gunfire" in the area.
Separately, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said its teams treated three people wounded in an Israeli settler attack in the Imriha area, southwest of Jenin, and took them to hospital. Sources told Anadolu news agency that one Palestinian suffered a broken leg, another was wounded in the hand, and an elderly man was beaten and pepper-sprayed.
According to the Palestinian Colonisation and Wall Resistance Commission, 66 Palestinians have been killed in at least 14,742 attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since October 2023.
The commission said the attacks have also damaged or destroyed 147,111 trees by breaking, uprooting, burning and poisoning them, including 100,485 olive trees.
The incidents come amid a sharp rise in violence in the territory ahead of Israel's elections later this month. Reports indicate Israel is seeking to prevent Palestinian politicians and parties from participating.
