Bangladesh have achieved a historic home Test series victory over Pakistan, defeating the visitors by 78 runs in the second Test in Sylhet.
Taijul Islam's six-wicket haul guided the hosts to the Test series win on the fifth day of the match, Wednesday.
Pakistan began the day at 316-7 in pursuit of a target of 437 runs, but were bowled out for 328 in the first innings, despite a fighting 94 from Mohammad Rizwan.
This is Bangladesh's first home Test series win against Pakistan, and their second consecutive series victory after a 2-0 win on Pakistani soil in 2024.
Wicketkeeper Rizwan kept Pakistan's hopes of an improbable victory alive with a 166-ball knock, after the visitors had slumped to 162-5 on the fourth day.
Rizwan put on a 54-run eighth-wicket partnership with Sajid Khan, who scored 28. Taijul broke the stand by dismissing Sajid, marking his 18th five-wicket haul in a Test innings, and Shoriful Islam caught Rizwan in the next over to end Pakistan's resistance.
Taijul claimed the final wicket of Khurram Shahzad, finishing with figures of 6-120, triggering Bangladesh's celebrations. The left-arm spinner had also taken 3-67 in Pakistan's first innings of 232.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das scored 126 in the hosts' first innings of 278. Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim hit 137 in the second innings, steering Bangladesh to 390, with contributions from Mahmudul Hasan Joy (52) and Litton (69).
Bangladesh, captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto, had won the first Test by 104 runs.
