According to sources close to the matter, Japan's three largest banks, including MUFG Bank, are expected to soon gain access to the latest artificial intelligence model named Claude Mythos, developed by U.S. startup Anthropic.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, with sources indicating the deal aims to use this advanced AI technology to enhance defense systems against cyberattacks for the financial sector—one of the preferred targets of global cybercriminals.
Claude Mythos is Anthropic's newest-generation model, noted for its rapid data analysis, detection of abnormal behavior, and early prediction of potential cyberattacks. Applying this technology helps banks reduce risks from increasingly sophisticated attacks.
The three megabanks include MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Mizuho Bank. This move reflects a trend among Japan's top financial institutions to deepen collaboration with U.S. technology companies to protect critical infrastructure.
Anthropic has not yet issued an official comment on the matter.
