Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on November 5 urged provincial administrations nationwide to step up efforts in expanding economic relations with neighboring countries, describing this as one of the government’s strategic priorities.
Speaking at a virtual conference with provincial governors, Araghchi stressed that strengthening cooperation with neighboring states not only brings direct economic benefits but also contributes to regional security and stability. He noted that provinces located near borders should capitalize on this geographical advantage to boost trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.
The foreign minister also proposed that provinces develop concrete plans, identify potential sectors and priority partners, and enhance coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to remove administrative barriers and facilitate local businesses’ access to foreign markets.
The move is seen as part of Tehran’s broader strategy to diversify foreign relations, reduce dependence on major economies, and leverage Iran’s geopolitical position in the Middle East and the Caucasus.
