Angel Reese broke the WNBA single-game rebounding record with 26 boards and set the league's single-season rebounding mark as the Atlanta Dream defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71 on Monday. Reese surpassed Chamique Holdsclaw's record of 24 rebounds, set on May 23, 2003, while with the Washington Mystics.
The Dream forward now has 458 rebounds this season, 7 more than A'ja Wilson's previous single-season record set in 2024. Reese finished the game with 11 points, securing her league-leading 27th double-double with a made bucket with 13.9 seconds remaining.
“Last time I was here, I didn't miss a shot. Tonight I couldn't score, so I knew I could make up for it on the boards,” Reese said in her postgame interview. “I just wanted to be there for my team. Offense or defense, whatever it takes to win.”
“That's talent,” Dream guard Allisha Gray said. “I'm in awe watching her rebound.”
Reese, a three-time WNBA All-Star, set the rookie record with 13.1 rebounds per game and the league record with 15 consecutive double-doubles while with Chicago in 2024. She has led the league in rebounding in each of her first two seasons and currently paces the WNBA with 12.0 boards per game this year. The Dream have now won nine straight games against the Sparks.
Gray led Atlanta (25-13) with 20 points. Rhyne Howard added 18 points, surpassing 3,000 career points. Gray also set an Atlanta franchise record with 247 made field goals in a season.
For Los Angeles (13-25), Nneka Ogwumike had 27 points and 16 rebounds, while Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink each scored 15 points.
